Chinese runners earned qualification in another three relay events for the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo in September after the competitions at the World Athletics Relays in Guangzhou, south China's Guangdong Province, on Sunday.
Liang Baotang, Mo Jiadie, Zhang Qining and Liu Yinglan finished third in the 4x400-meter event after setting a new national record of 03:13.39. First-leg runner Liang led the first lap with 44.91 seconds before placing the baton into the hands of Mo. Though Mo and Zhang were surpassed by their opponents from Germany, Spain and Jamaica, they remained close behind the top three. In the end, China's fourth leg Liu beat Jamaica's Roneisha McGregor for her side to rise to third place and book their place in Tokyo.
China sent a new squad to the women's 4x100m event by replacing Liang Xiaojing with Zhu Junying after Liang injured herself in Saturday's race. Zhu joined Chen Yujie, Li Yuting and Ge Manqi in finishing first in the race thanks to a season-best of 43.03 seconds. They have also made Tokyo 2025.
The hosts secured qualification for Tokyo in the men's 4x100m as well. Shi Junhao and He Jinxian replaced Xie Zhenye and Chen Jiapeng to form a new squad with Zeng Keli and Wang Shengjie. They finished the race with a season-best of 38.03 seconds and earned their place in the world.
