China's Yuan Yue and New Zealand's Lulu Sun battled through a grueling three-set encounter to oust Russia's Anna Blinkova and Egypt's Maiar Sherif, advancing to the second round of the women's doubles at the French Open.
The pair launched their opener with gusto, quickly establishing a 3-0 lead and cruising to a 6-2 first-set victory. The second set proved more challenging and they lost it 7-5, but Yuan and Sun found their rhythm in the decider.
Both decent singles players, their formidable baseline skills enabled them to dictate rallies, gradually wearing down their opponents. Ultimately, they sealed the deal with a 6-3 victory.
Reflecting on her partnership with Sun, Yuan said: "Our teamwork was quite good. We didn't complicate things with elaborate tactics; instead, we relied on our singles skills, staying deep at the baseline to create the advantage."
