As the Dragon Boat Festival draws near, residents across southern Shanxi – especially in Yuncheng and Linfen – are busy steaming huamo, a type of decorative buns made from the region's high-quality wheat. These dough creations take the shape of tigers and other symbolic figures, each one vivid and full of meaning.

Traditionally used to honor ancestors and offer prayers for favorable weather, peace, and prosperity, these edible artworks are a staple of local celebrations. Recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage, Jinnan Huamo is deeply woven into the region's customs – an essential presence at festivals, weddings, funerals, and seasonal rituals.
