On May 20, a ceremony was held on an island off the coast of Zhejiang Province to unveil the Memorial for Dongji Fishermen's Rescue of British Prisoners of War. Among those attending were 18 descendants of British POWs who were on board the"Lisbon Maru" in October 1942, when it sank. The memorial, in honoring the heroic local fishermen who saved some of the British soldiers, stands as a reminder of the profound friendship forged between the Chinese and British peoples during World War II.
